Stability at standing height. Every desk is steady when low. At full height, a cheap frame sways as you type. Two motors and a single-piece desktop are what keep it still; both our sources flag the two-piece top as the weak point of budget desks.
Height range for your height. Your elbows should be at about 90 degrees with your hands on the keyboard. Taller people need a range that reaches 48 inches or more.
Noise, if you share a room or a thin floor.
Cable management. Cables that are too short snag or pull things off the desk when it rises. A tray under the desk solves it.
Weight capacity, if you run several monitors or a heavy computer.
How to actually use one
Alternate rather than standing all day. A few changes an hour between sitting and standing is the point, and height presets make that effortless.
